I thought this was very surprising. Rick Sanchez I thought was the most rational on CNN and I liked how he stood up against the normal political bias in the mainstream media. However, yesterday, Sanchez made some controversial remarks on  Pete Dominick’s satellite radio. He accused John Stewart of being a “bigot” for mocking him  and complained that Jews — like Stewart — don’t face discrimination. He also suggested that CNN and the media is run by Jews and elitists who look down on Hispanics like himself.

CNN were obviously not too thrilled about the comments and on 6 pm today CNN make this statement:

Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well.

He specifically called out Stewart as someone with “a white liberal establishment point-of-view” who “can’t relate to a guy like me.” Also, Sanchez claimed that Stewart is “upset that someone of my ilk is at, almost, his level.” Here’s a transcript of the interview from The Atlantic Wire on Yahoo!:

Dominick: How is he a bigot?

Sanchez: I think he looks at the world through, his mom, who was a school teacher, and his dad, who was a physicist or something like that. Great, I’m so happy that he grew up in a suburban middle class New Jersey home with everything you could ever imagine.

Dominick: What group is he bigoted towards?

Sanchez: Everybody else who’s not like him. Look at his show, I mean, what does he surround himself with?

After going back and forth with Dominick, Sanchez retracted the bigot label saying Stewart is merely “prejudicial” and “uninformed.” When Dominick raised the point that Stewart likely sympathizes with minorities because he’s Jewish, Sanchez laughed:

Please, what are you kidding? I’m telling you that everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they, the people in this country who are Jewish, are an oppressed minority? Yeah.

Here’s also an audio:

Now I’m not saying I agree with John Stewart. I think the guy is a hypocrite and he’s just pushing a political agenda hidden behind a veil of comedy. However, due to the fact he is a comedian, getting mad because he’s making fun of you and resorting to a mindless and borderline racial rant is just childish. The comment against Jews was uncalled for and completely ridiculous.

Some of the clips from The Daily Show that supposedly fueled Sanchez’s anger towards Stewart can be seen here:
